What is PVA?
The Pine View Association is the volunteer-run organization of parents, teachers, staff, and friends of the school. PVA raises the funds, organizes the events, and builds the community that supports Pine View School.
Membership
Every Pine View family is automatically a member of the Pine View Association. No dues, no signup, no sponsorship required: if your child attends Pine View, you're already one of us. This page is your guide to the year ahead, the events you'll hear about, and the easiest ways to plug in.
Your first month
August 18 – September 1
Casual on-campus coffees just for new families, grouped by grade so you meet parents at the same stage. Held in the Student Union, 9:30 to 10:30 AM (High School session 9:45 to 10:45). No RSVP, just come as you are.

PVA board meetings are open to every member of the Pine View community, and that includes you. Second Tuesday of each month, 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Student Union. It's a great way to get involved.

August
Casual, grade-by-grade parent coffees in the Student Union during the first weeks of school. Meet other new families and PVA volunteers. No RSVP needed.
Tuesday, August 11, 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Student Union. Open to everyone. Come hear how the year works.
PVA welcomes Pine View's teachers and staff back to campus the week before school starts.
PVA families donate new school supplies for children served by Children First, a Sarasota nonprofit.
The start-of-year window to fund your favorite classrooms directly. The biggest giving moment is Back to School Night.
September
Parent volunteers create a fun space for kids to shop during lunch, Monday through Friday.
Return paper forms to the front office by late September. Online donations stay open year-round.
October – November
Pine View's biggest event and the one students look forward to most. Club and teacher booths, food, and special guests in the dunk tank. Booth proceeds go directly to participating classes and clubs.
Elementary and middle school students collect pledges, then walk, jog, and run the track for an hour while a DJ plays. Parents are encouraged to come cheer.
The first of three Pride celebrations recognizing academic achievement in grades 2–12.
December
PVA hosts teachers and staff for a holiday celebration on the first Friday of December.
New pajamas and books for children ages 0–5 served by Children First.
February
A school-wide celebration of reading. Shop the Scholastic Book Fair (purchases earn new media center books), donate gently used books to the Book Drive, and cheer on readers collecting pledges in the Read-a-thon.
Round two of the academic recognition celebrations.
PVA's flagship evening for parents and the community: dinner, dancing, and a silent auction. Tickets go fast.
March
A community-wide 10K, 5K, and 1-mile fun run with a fast finish on the Pine View track. Chip-timed, family-friendly, all abilities welcome.
April
A full week of breakfasts, lunches, treats, and gifts for teachers and staff. One of the biggest volunteer moments of the year.
The final Pride celebration of the year.
PVA's annual thank-you to the volunteers who make everything possible.
Committee presentations from every PVA program, plus the annual election of new board members. Any member can self-nominate.
A 24-hour community giving event held every other spring. Donations to PVA are matched by the Patterson Foundation.

Order a personalized engraved paver for PVA's Legacy Garden. Orders cluster around graduation, and it's a favorite way to mark a milestone.
The end-of-year celebration for families, alumni, faculty, and friends.

Moving-up celebrations
5th and 8th grade classes celebrate their transitions with events their families help fund and organize.
Recognition programs
You'll hear these three names within your first quarter. Here's what each one means.
Recognizes students in grades 2–12 for academic achievement three times a year (a Friday in November, February, and April). Elementary students qualify with all A's, or A's and B's; middle and high school students qualify with a 3.5 or 4.0 GPA. PVA provides the volunteers and the treats.
A monthly recognition program. Each teacher recognizes one student per subject for extra effort, kindness, leadership, or progress. Elementary recipients get a button and a personal letter from Dr. Covert, plus an invitation to the Student Union for a celebration.
The 212 Degree Award
Given monthly by teachers and the administration to students and a staff member who go the extra degree. The name comes from the idea that at 211 degrees water is just hot, but one more degree and it boils.
Year-round programs
Parent volunteers run this store, Monday through Friday during lunch periods. Volunteering here is one of the best ways to see your child's world (shifts are flexible; Level 2 volunteer registration required).
The School Garden A student-powered microfarm with composting, pollinator gardens, and seasonal crops. Students visit after lunch, the high school Garden Club meets there regularly, and teachers use it as an on-campus field trip. To join, just email the Garden Committee. No green thumb required, and parents, students, and community members are all welcome.

PVA runs the school-wide fundraisers, and every dollar comes back to Pine View: clubs, classrooms, teachers, campus projects, and graduation. Here's what each one funds.
Businesses and families sponsor PVA for the year and receive recognition across events, Pine Views magazine, and Python Path.
Run by PVA at the start of each year, every dollar goes directly to the teacher or department you choose. This is the best way to send tax-deductible funds straight to classrooms.
Student pledges fund Pine View clubs, classroom programs, and school-wide initiatives. Last year it raised about $55,000.
PVA's largest single fundraiser: dinner, dancing, and a silent auction.
PVA underwrites the fair and booth proceeds go directly to the over 80 Pine View clubs that run them.
Reading pledges support the school media center.
In partnership with the Manasota Track Club, a local favorite that provides community, volunteer experiences, and funding to Pine View.
Every-other-year community giving event where the Patterson Foundation matches donations. Mark your calendar for the next match event in 2028.
PVA isn't the only group fundraising during the year, and it helps to know who's asking for what:
Good to know
There are two entrances on the west side of Pine View. The south entrance branches into the bus loop and the shell lot; middle school drop-off and pick-up happen in the shell lot, which also serves as overflow parking for students and parents. The north entrance branches into the main office lot and the main car loop. The main lot is mostly used by day visitors to the school, and you can park in the shell lot when it fills up or carline makes it inaccessible. Afternoon carline typically takes about 25 minutes to finish; if you're running late, students can be picked up in the main office.
WhatsApp groups are parent-organized text chains, organized by grade level. Reach out to info@yourpva.org and we'll work to get you an invitation.
You'll need to show photo ID to come into the school. If you plan to volunteer, you'll need to register through the county Raptor system. For field trips or unsupervised volunteering, a Level 2 clearance is required. Register early.
Register to volunteer with Sarasota County SchoolsYou may come any day to eat lunch with your child. Just sign in at the office.
Rolling backpacks are common. Many classrooms are up a flight or two of stairs, so keep that in mind when choosing one.
All students are required to go through the open gate security system on arrival. This is a county program for all area high schools.
